Lori answers some commonly asked questions about eyelash extensions

Why should I choose Eye Candy?
I have beautifully completed over 10,000 sets of eyelash extensions. I am a certified licensed aesthetician of 16 years in both Winnipeg, MB and Vancouver, BC and have been specializing in lash extensions since 2006. Come to Eye Candy Lash + Brow Boutique and experience the most beautiful lash set yet!

Should the lash technician I see be trained?
Absolutely, I cannot stress enough the importance of choosing an eyelash technician who has been taught by a qualified and experienced person. There are many eyelash extension stylists who are claiming to have been professionally trained but have been self taught via the Internet and these operators are also using poor quality products bought on the Internet. This is disastrous and at the Eye Candy Lash Boutique we are having more and more distressed ladies contacting me for help and advice as they have had a bad experience by one of the many self taught people. Please do your research thoroughly and ask many questions.

What are semipermanent eyelash extensions?
At Eye Candy we carry premium quality polyester, faux mink, premium (silk) and 100% authentic siberian mink fur individual eyelashes> All of which come in different lengths, thickness, and degrees of curl. They will give you a fuller, darker lash line without the need of mascara. They feel weightless and you won’t even feel you are wearing them.

How are lashes applied?
What is the process of getting and maintaining eyelash extensions?”]The application process is very relaxing. You sit back on our white comfy recliners  and have your eyes closed the entire time while music plays in the background. Your lash artist will adhere one lash extension to one of your natural lashes one at a time with medical grade adhesive. When your natural lash sheds, the extension will fall out with that lash. To maintain a full appearance, it is recommended to get a refill every 2-3 weeks as you shed 1-5 natural lashes daily between both eyes.   Your initial full set can take anywhere from 45 min to 2 hours depending on what set was chosen. Refills can be done in as little as 30 minutes.

How long will a lash set last?
Gold and Platinum set eyelash extensions will ‘look good’ for approximately 3 weeks before needing a fill. If you do not receive a fill at this time, they will continue to shed and completely fall off by 4 – 6 weeks.  Silver Set Eye Lash Extensions will ‘look good’ for approximately 2 weeks and be completely gone by 4 weeks, our Silver Set is great for individuals who do not wear any mascara at all. Note: your natural lashes shed 1-5 a day so if there is an extension on the lash that is about to shed it will take the extension with it as the extensions are applied to the hair and not the skin. The more Lash Extensions you have applied ” Gold Set” or “Platinum Set” or our “Volume Sets ” the less obvious lash shed appears as to when you have the “Silver Set” applied. These are averages only. Keep in mind that the strength and texture of your natural lash, and the aftercare of your Eyelash Extensions as well as lifestyle all play factors in the life of your Eyelash Extensions.

Do lash extensions cause your natural lashes to fall out?
The application of lash extensions, when applied properly by a trained professional, will not cause hair loss, nor will it cause eyelashes to fall out. Remember that your natural lashes have their own life cycle of falling and growing. Again as mentioned earlier, average of 1-5 of your own natural lashes shed a day between both eyes. If an extension is applied to a lash that is about to shed it will take the lash extension with it as the lash extension is applied to the hair and not the skin. It’s hard to notice small lashes falling out, but when attached to a thicker, longer lash they definitely become much more noticeable! Once the extensions are removed, your own eyes may appear smaller, your natural lashes, shorter and sparser because you’ve been accustomed to a full set of longer, darker, thicker lashes.

Are there any risks with lash extensions?
As with any product on the market, there is a very small chance of an allergic reaction (less than 1%). With a true allergic reaction, swelling of the eyes will occur within the first 48 hours. Contact Eye Candy Lash + Brow  Boutique immediately should this happen and we will remove the extensions free of charge for you ASAP. Once they have been removed, the swelling will dissipate within a few days, and your eyes will be back to normal without any damage to either your eyes or lashes. Removal takes 15-20 minutes.

Who should not wear eyelash extensions?
Have pre-existing eyelid or eye conditions such as blepharitis and ocular rosacea. Want a very heavy mascara look but do not have the natural lashes to support it. Individuals who constantly rub their eyes. Have a condition called Trichotillomania, which is hair loss resulting from compulsive pulling of the hair, brows or in this case, eyelashes.

Do you recommend lash extensions for my wedding, grad or vacation?
Yes! Don’t have to worry about mascara running down your face! Eyelash Extensions will allow you the freedom of looking beautiful without having to spend the time every morning applying mascara. However if you’ve never tried it before you should have them applied at least 4 days before you leave for travel, just in case you happen to fall into the 1% of those who may have a reaction. For brides, we recommend you come in and try a “Silver Set”, at least a month before your big day to decide on the look you want and to rule out any possible irritation. And then book a Platinum Set a few days prior to your big day.

Can I still wear makeup with lash extensions on?
Yes you may! As long as your wearing oil free eye makeup you will be okay,  liquid liner, and shadow liner are all fine except for pencil liners as they contain oils that can loosen the bond of the adhesive which will cause your lashes to fall out sooner.  Mascara is not recommended to be worn on ANY Volume Sets as it will close up the “fans ” .  If you wear mascara on your Classic sets ” Silver ” , ” Gold “, or ” Platinum “, just be aware that the life of your lash extensions may not last as long. Waterproof mascara is never to be worn on your extensions .  There are mascaras specifically made to be worn on eyelash extensions which you can purchase at our boutique, even yet I still don’t recommend for that to be worn on a daily bases. If you are the type that loves to go dancing on the weekends and like to still wear a strip of lashes for the night please make sure that you glue them on your lid closets to your lash line and NOT on your lashes. I would hate to see you come back having ripped out your extensions and natural lashes due to you applying strip lashes over top.
